Gunderson High School Theater, 622 Gaundabert Lane, San Jose, CA. 95136
The Musician's Warehouse Big Band, Inc., in conjunction with Gunderson High School Music Department, Jim McCloy, Director and the American Federation of Musicians, Local 153, San Jose, CA. Will present a benefit BIG BAND JAZZ Concert.
According to the TMWBB manager, Terry A. Loose, "This is the first in a series of concerts at various schools in the Bay Area. The purposes of the concerts are three fold. First, the band students are exposed to a true American music style of BIG BAND JAZZ. Secondly, the concert provides funds, through donations, to the school music program to help fund the budget of the local band director. Thirdly, the students are invited to participate in the concert by ‘sitting in’ with the TMWBB. This provides both the students and parents an insight into what music is all about … playing, listening and enjoying live music."
"The music is exciting, dynamic and powerful", according to Sal Butera, the TMWBB Musical Director. "Our library has been provided by none other then the world renowned big band drummer, composer, arranger, Grammy award nominated artist LOUIE BELLSON. Louie has been a supporter and promoter of school music programs throughout the world all his life. We are fortunate to have Louie as our mentor and supporter. Louie has composed and arranged over 2,000 charts with his career spanning more then 70 years as a performer and musician. He often visits and rehearses with the TMWBB here in San Jose. We are fortunate to have his music to perform at these concerts."
"The Musician's Warehouse Big Band consists of 19 professional Bay Area musicians. We have been in existence since January 2000 and have been rehearsing and playing various venues including the San Jose Jazz Festival, last August, and Musician's Warehouse Open House, last April", continued Loose. "We are looking forward to many more school concerts, dances or festivals to promote and keep alive that Big Band experience."
"Our mission statement for the band says it all, "Dedicated to the youth of our community through music education." ...The Musician's Warehouse Big Band.
